Dr Conrad Murray - To Face Man-slaughter Charges

It has been reported that the Los Angeles County coroner’s office determined that Michael Jackson died from “acute propofol intoxication” combined with sedatives and labeled his death a homicide. Michael Jackson’s personal physician Dr Conrad Murray prescribed these medications to him. Prosecutors plan to charge Jackson's doctor with manslaughter rather than take the case to a grand jury, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press Tuesday.

Dr. Murray has consistently denied any wrong doing. I am surmising that Dr. Murray does not think its wrong to administer a powerful anesthetic drug like propofol in a persons home opposed to a medical facility that has a trained medical staff to handle an emergency if the need arises.

Dr. Conrad Murray- Michael Jackson’s Autopsy Reveal Interesting Facts

The long awaited autopsy report of Michael Jackson has finally been released. The report indicates that he was in fairly good health for a man of '50' years old and no illegal drugs were detected in his system. The report did reveal that he had arthritis in the lower spine and some fingers, and light plaque buildup in his leg arteries and his lungs showed chronic inflammation. The coroner ruled that Jackson’s was caused by acute intoxication of the anesthetic propofol with other sedatives a factor. Read more at:

So what position does this report leave Dr. Murray in? This report seems to put a constraint on a potential defense for Murray that Jackson was in poor health and hid serious pre-existing conditions that could have contributed to or caused his death. The propofol was administered without a medical need by a person that was not an anesthesiologist and the recommended resuscitation equipment was missing.

Dr. Murray, who most of us would not have known if not for the tragic death of Michael Jackson on June 25, 2009. Dr. Murray completed medical school in 1989 at Me Harry Medical College School Of Medicine in Nashville, Tn., and then an Internal Medicine residency at the same school in 1992. He completed a Fellowship in cardiology in 1995 at the same school, as well as another a year later in Interventional Cardiology. He was a cardiologist licensed to practice medicine in Texas and Nevada.

Prior to his name being linked to the death of Jackson, Dr. Murray was described by patients on the vitals.com website as the “best cardiologist” and “one of the most caring doctors I have ever met”.

Why would an accomplished cardiologist who took the Hippocratic Oath, swearing to ethically practice medicine, perform such an unethical act. It appears that the optimum word is DEBT. It is reported that Dr. Murray has over $400,000 in court judgments assessed against him for failure to pay child support. He had Tax liens in California and Arizona, and non-payment of credit card and loan payments. His total debt is estimated to be around $780.000. Dr. Murray saw a way out and he indicated that in a June 15, 2009 memo to his patients. “Because of a once in a lifetime opportunity, I have made a most difficult decision to cease practice of medicine indefinitely” read the entire letter at: Read the entire letter at:

Dr Murray saw this employment with Michael Jackson as a beacon of hope not beginning of the end. A recent feature on NBC Nightly News cited the following statistics about debt:

• We have $1.24 trillion in consumer debt – an all time high.

• Personal bankruptcy is up over 400 percent since 1980 (1.3 million people declared bankruptcy in 1997)

•1.02 million Americans are behind in their mortgage payments.

People from all walks of life falls prey to debt. Basically, it invades your home, your work, your total way of life. The question becomes what are our moral boundaries when it comes to debt. Debt is a powerful weapon, its cause people commit suicide, steal, cheat lie, anxiety, depression, and do things that are morally unethical. Dr. Murray accepted a position with Michael Jackson knowing that he would have to administer propofol, a drug that is only administered in a hospital by anthologists and with the proper equipment. If this drug is administered in any other environment the consequences could be devastating if something went wrong. Well something did go wrong on June 25th 2009, Michael Jackson died. Murray now faces being prosecuted and losing his medical license. The mounting debt is still there and even more to come with the enormous lawyer fees. He took a bad risk and now must face the inevitable consequences. We all must ask ourselves, are we ready to face the consequences of our actions if something goes wrong?

Is debt always a factor in doctors committing un-ethical acts, or could it be, doctors are more prone to take extra risks where celebrities are concerned. Dr. George Nichopoulos who was Elvis' private physician and was accused of writing tens of thousands of prescriptions for Elvis who was said to have abused them horribly. What about doctors that wrote prescription drugs for Fen-Phen for ordinary people without giving them proper examination, which resulted in serious adverse effects and thousands of lawsuits and even loss of life. Whatever the reason, a Hippocratic Oath should mean just that, and should up held, no matter what the circumstances are.
